Explore this beautiful natural lake located in Ba Be National Park, where the dramatic landscape is complimented by the small ethnic minority villages dotted around the lake shore.  This beautiful national park in the northern province of Bac Kan features a sprawling lake which is listed as one of the world’s twenty largest freshwater lakes. Also on the trip, you will visit the largest waterfall in Vietnam, Ban Gioc Waterfall. The stunning falls have an impressive 300-meter span with one end in China, and the other in Vietnam.

Day 1: Hanoi - Puong cave - Ba Be Lake (L/D)  
Pick up early in the morning for the journey to Ba Be National Park (230 kilometers). Your cultural discovery will begin along the way with a visit to a Tay community, the second largest ethnic group in Vietnam. Discover their traditions and learn how they make their living from rice cultivation. Reach Ba Be National Park, you take a boat ride along the Nang River winding through the wild and rugged land until you reach Puong Grotto and later Widow Island. You can have a swim in crystal clear waters before visiting the stilt houses of the Tay community in Coc Toc Village, where you spend the night in homestay.
Day 2: Ba Be Lake - Hua Ma cave - Quang Yuen (B/L/D)  
After breakfast, your journey will start with a visit to Hua Ma, a dry cave with thousands of stalactites. Traveling around Ba Be Lake by car, through the rain forest then leave Ba Be, stopping for lunch in Cho Ra Town. After lunch, travel to Quang Uyen, the frontier district which is inhabited mostly by Nung ethnic minority communities.
The remoteness and the simplicity of the lifestyle are what make Quang Uyen truly amazing. You will be able to experience both firsthand as you stay overnight in the village.
Day 3: Quang Uyen - Ban Gioc - Cao Bang (B/L/D)  
Today will take you to one of the most incredible natural wonders in the north of Vietnam, Ban Gioc Waterfall. The breathtaking 300-meter wide cascade sits on the border between China and Vietnam in amongst the mountainous landscape of the northern regions. You will also have the chance to board a bamboo boat which will take to the very edge of Vietnam. After enjoying the waterfall, you will venture underground the magical Nguom Ngao Cave to discover the rock formations which been carved out by erosion.
Next, visiting a local market where you can experience the amazing culture of this frontier region. Then, hike to Phat Tich Temple which as well as giving a great insight into the local beliefs, offers unrivalled views of Ban Gioc Waterfall with China in the background. After that, travel to Cao Bang where you will spend the night in Thanh Loan Hotel.
Day 4: Cao Bang - Hanoi (B/L)
Climbing the hill up to the War Memorial for a great panoramic view. The famous Highway No.4 winds its way through steep mountain passes with spectacular vistas. Lang Son, the capital of this mountainous area, is an important crossing and trading route with Non Nuoc. Just a couple of kilometres from town are two large, beautiful caves and the ruins of the Mac Dynasty Citadel which are worth a visit, time permitting. Tam Thanh Cave contains a small lake and offers great views of the surrounding farmlands. Nhi Thanh Cave, formed by the river that flows through it. You will arrive at your hotel in Hanoi in late the afternoon.
