Even in one of the largest cities in the world, the life of native Indians can be similar to that of indigenous tribes in the country. In the Guarani Tenondê Porã village, an hour and 30 minutes from the center of São Paulo, live about 1.2 thousand Guarani Native Indians who preserve many of their ancient traditions and speak their own language also called “Guarani”.

We invite you to take a journey with us to be introduced to the visitor-friendly tribe of Tenondê Porã who are eager to show their culture, customs, colorful gatherings to dance performances.

  • There are basically eight large families who share brick houses, built by the state government in their reservation.
  • Essentially, subsistence agriculture is practiced, which provides daily food. There are banana, guava, tangerine, orange and mango, which children pick up on the trees. The income comes basically from the indigenous craftsmanship sold to stores in the urban part of São Paulo.
  • The chief is currently fighting to expand the perimeters of the Guarani lands. Five shamans serve as spiritual guides, giving advice and praying in a sacred house. The pajés also baptize the children of the village with names in Guarani, depending on the characteristics of each one.
